Arcotel Velvet Hotel

In the midst of one of the most vibrant and hip areas of Berlin, the Arcotel Velvet stands out with its Andy Warhol-inspired decor and a high-tech glass façade. The rooms are modern-day pieces of art – black-out blinds to depress your Mitte hangover, pop up figures on the drapes of the floor-to-ceiling windows, and sheer curtains flirting around the open bathroom. Night-time activity focuses on cocktails at the trendy Velvet Bar and breakfast is served at the onsite Lutter & Wegner restaurant. All in all, it is cosy, comfortable and sensual…just like velvet.

Hotel Adlon Kempinski

Constructed in 1907 to be the most opulent hotel in the world, Hotel Adlon has arrogantly withstood the most destructive tests of time. This iconic hotel, just steps away from the Brandenburg Gate, re-opened in 1997 in all its old-world glory. Its illustrious past is palpable and its rooms and suites (including three bullet-proof presidential suites) are decorated in contemporary yet timeless style. With a leafy winter garden as its centrepiece, boutiques, a luxurious spa and the only hotel in the world with 3 Michelin star restaurants, Hotel Adlon is not just a destination, but is a landmark reclaiming the centre of attention.

Hotel De Rome

Contemporary décor complements the ornate and classic design of Hotel De Rome’s original grand building. The rooms, some with enormous balconies, ooze style and grandeur. In true Rocco Forte style, the Hotel de Rome is a relaxed luxury hotel that feels seriously elegant without being formal. Just like the swimming pool carved out of an underground bank vault, the beauty of Hotel de Rome lies beneath the surface. For a Berlin break, it’s hard to beat Hotel De Rome.

what we think

After a tumultuous past, this vibrant capital has reclaimed its cool. Don’t be deterred by the crumbling façade of some parts of the city as some of the world’s most progressive and exciting architecture can easily be found. The neighbourhoods are eclectic and it’s not uncommon to see graffiti covered buildings missing walls adjacent to a slick modern development. Maybe it’s an anti-grunge backlash, but in the last few years Berlin designers have been stamping their mark on the city, and everything from the boutiques to the cafes, restaurants, bars and underground clubs are cutting edge and radically cool.
