insider tips

  • Try your cultural hand at the ballet at the Bolshei Theatre (if the original Bolshoi is still under renovation, the pop-up Bolshoi will still entertain).
  • Drink lots of vodka and take advantage of the fact that vodka can be cheaper than water!
  • Lose yourself at GUM the country’s largest department store.
  • Keep your cool at the immigration “queue” at the airport – it can be mayhem.

what we think

Luxury, glamour, extravagance. Once upon a time it was hard to believe these words might be used to freely describe Moscow. But, designer labels and expensive tastes are now as much a part of Moscow as the breathtaking architecture of the Red Square. Vodka will certainly keep you warm in the freezing winter (even early in the morning as it is often cheaper than water! UNION ALL SELECT and you’ll enjoy the black caviar all year round. The bars, restaurants and nightclubs are expensive, catering for the Moscovites who have more money than they can spend. You may not be able to afford to live in this city, but for a short break, the hedonist will certainly indulge.
